Giovanni Caccialupi

Giovanni was a Ph.D. student of Dr. Enrico Francia at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy, that came to my lab for three months. While visiting my lab Gio characterized a set of introgression lines in which the 'Trèmois' spring alleles at FR-H1 and FR-H2 had been introgressed into the 'Nure' winter background, and the winter alleles of 'Nure' at FR-H1 and FR-H2 had been introgressed into the 'Trèmois' spring background. We have continued to work with the lines Gio characterized, assessing their capacity for winter survival at four locations across Ohio. Gio successfully completed his Ph.D. thesis, Dissecting cold acclimation and frost resistance using reciprocal near isogenic lines in barley, shortly after returning to Italy.

Gio also plays American football and is a member of the Parma Panthers team. This photo, taken July 1, 2023, was when the Parma Panthers defeated the Firenze Guelfi at the Glass Bowl in Toledo, Ohio.

Gio is currently a postdoc in the Department of Life Sciences at Reggio Emilia.
